Is there someone in your family you could prompt to look for the UK grown logo at garden centres and explain why it’s worth doing?
Last May I wrote a short blog on this after visiting my local garden centre (https://celiaknightconsulting.co.uk/uk-grown-logo-look/). This year when my daughter said she was going to buy some plants I realised this is easy advice to pass on as we transform our outdoor spaces.
Looking for the UK grown logo when deciding which garden plants to buy is a simple way for everyone to contribute to the GB effort to protect our food crops and environment from pests and diseases and raises awareness of the importance of plant health to all of our lives. It helps because it’s easier to check the provenance of plants grown in the UK and to track disease outbreaks (https://planthealthportal.defra.gov.uk)
There’s a lot going on in the horticulture industry to continue producing the range of healthy plants customers want (http:hta.org.uk) but we can all do our bit to help.
